Carol Hut to Dillon hut

Trip Overview

Carol hut sets atop the Kelly Range with panoramic views of the surrounding mountain tops within the Arthurs Pass National Park. It is a steep short climb to the hut where we will spend the night before hiking past the beautiful tarns of the Kelly Range and heading down a rather steep track to Dillon Hut on the Taipo River where we will spend the night. Day three we will walk out of the Taipo River valley Track back to SH73. We will need a car at each end of this track. In case the Taipo River is high we will stay at Carol Hut for an extra night and explore the tops. Note: there is no fire in Carol Hut.

Gear Required

Potential to be cold and wet. All the warm gear and full wet weathers. Think alpine tarns and winter tramping. Warm Sleeping bag, cooker and utensils. First aid kit and PLB if you have one. Power bank for phone recharging if using one. Good attitude required and perhaps some trail songs. :-) Sturdy shoes or boots, walking poles will be a benefit to those who have them as the track is steep from Kelly tarns to Dillon Hut. Hut tickets for both huts are standard blue tickets. Check out plan my walk for more information on tracks, huts and gear suggestions.
