And then there were three….Hokitika Tramping Club’s curse for Robert Point Track trips continues!
Despite being rescheduled to Sunday because of a wet Matariki afternoon, our trip was scuppered by an Orange weather warning. Our nine registered punters dropped to three due to clashes with timetables, but Ben, Vicky and Maria had a cold but clear walk around the Punakaiki-Pororari Loop. This was a first for Ben, and the first time Vicky had ventured onto the old Inland Pack Track section, which dates from 1869. We walked up to the second bridge for an early lunch, and spent the walk down the valley trying (and failing) to spot fish. We were surprised how low the river was. Once back at the car, we visited the new and very flash Pounamu Pathway visitor centre. Ben bought a West Coast Huts poster to inspire new adventures. It started to rain just as we drove home.
